Wood Products Operations Forester at California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE)
Justin Britton is the Operations Forester for CAL FIRE's Wood Products & Bioenergy Team. He supports project management efforts with existing business and workforce development grantees. Justin joined CAL FIRE in 2019 as an inaugural forester in the Climate and Energy Program. Prior to CAL FIRE, he spent 5 years working as a Registered Professional Forester in private industry, managing lands in Shasta, Siskiyou and Trinity counties. Justin earned a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a Master of Science in Forest Ecology from Utah State University. The Wood Products and Bioenergy Team (Wood Products) is part of CAL FIRE’s Climate and Energy Program. Through our Business and Workforce Development Grants, we award funding for business and workforce development projects that support California's forest sector. Examples include projects that increase the utilization of forest biomass or offer training opportunities in forest-sector skill areas. The 2024 Q1 Business and Workforce Development Grants solicitation is currently accepting applications with up to $20 million available for eligible projects. Applications are due March 8, 2024.
