POSTER PRESENTER GUIDE

2026 North American Biochar Conference

November 16–18, 2026  |  New Orleans, LA


Congratulations, and thank you for your poster submission to the 2026 North American Biochar Conference! This guide covers everything accepted presenters need to know to prepare for and take part in the poster session. View downloadable poster presenter guide pdf

Presenter Categories


Posters are grouped into two categories:

Student / Research
Undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate researchers
Eligible for cash poster awards (see below)

Business / Government / Organizational
Includes companies, agencies, and non-profit organizations
Showcasing applied work, programs, or initiatives
No sales pitches are allowed

All accepted posters are displayed in the Exhibit Hall for the duration of the conference.

Content Requirements


Essential Elements

  • Clear Purpose: Articulate your research, projects, objectives or program information.
  • Key Findings: Present significant results with supporting data.
  • Conclusions: Highlight the implications and significance of your work.
  • Industry Relevance: Demonstrate practical value to the biochar community.

Content Standards

  • Maintain focus on knowledge sharing rather than commercial promotion.
  • Ensure content aligns with conference themes and session objectives.
  • Provide evidence-based conclusions supported by data or analysis.

As with our abstract guidelines, posters may not include sales pitches, promotional offers, or commercial advertising of any kind.
Posters must bring value and greater understanding to biochar and related industries.

Poster Awards – Student / Research Track


Students, including post-graduate researchers, are eligible for two cash prizes:

1. Top Presenting Poster Award – $100 Gift Card
Judged on your poster together with your in-person presentation (optional Speed Talk).

2. Top Poster Award (Best Poster) – $100 Gift Card
Judged on the poster itself – quality, clarity, and how informative it is. Presenting is not required to be eligible for this award.

Registration


  • Registration Fee: If your poster is accepted, conference registration is $495.
  • Student Rate: Discounted student registration rates are available at $395.

Posters will be pinned to a poster board provided in the Exhibit Hall. Thumb tacks and tape provided.

Visual Design Standards

  • Title Block: Include poster title, author name(s), and institutional affiliation.
  • Typography: Use clear, professional fonts with appropriate sizing hierarchy.
  • Color Usage: Employ color strategically for emphasis and clarity.
  • Graphics: Create simple, bold illustrations with high-resolution images.
  • Layout: Design should be self-explanatory for independent viewing.

Quality Control

Critical

Ensure professional presentation free from grammatical, punctuation, spelling, and typographical errors.
Posters that lack care are reviewed less favorably.

Schedule & Logistics


Display Timeline

  • Setup: Monday is the ideal time to move in your poster. Posters should be up by Tuesday, the start of the conference.
  • Display Period: Tuesday, November 17 – Wednesday, November 18
  • Viewing Hours: During all open hours of the Exhibit Hall
  • Removal Deadline: 5:30 PM on November 18

Poster Installation

  • Your poster will be pinned to a poster board provided in the Exhibit Hall.
  • Posters should be placed in the allocated area within the Exhibit Hall.
  • Your poster session time and board assignment will be available in the conference program.

Poster Removal

Important Deadlines

All posters must be removed from the Exhibit Hall by 5:30 PM on November 18.
Posters remaining after this time will be relocated to the registration desk.
Posters not picked up will be disposed of after the conference.

Speed Talk Presentation (Optional) 


Format Requirements

  • Duration: 3 minutes per presentation
  • Timing: TBD
  • Purpose: Provide a brief overview to attract attendees to your poster.

Presentation Strategy

  • Prepare a concise summary of your key findings.
  • Focus on the most compelling aspects of your work.
  • Practice timing to stay within the allocated timeframe.
  • Use this opportunity to generate interest in follow-up discussions.

Post-Presentation Engagement

  • Remain available at your poster following Speed Talks if you would like to answer additional questions.
  • Engage with attendees during the social event.
  • Prepare for detailed discussions about your methodology and findings.

Prohibited Items


Not Allowed

No three-dimensional displays or demonstrations
No audio or video components
No materials requiring electrical connections

Student Poster Evaluation Criteria


Posters will be assessed based on:

  • Scientific Merit: Quality and significance of research.
  • Clarity of Presentation: Clear communication of objectives, methods, and results.
  • Visual Design: Professional appearance and effective use of visual elements.
  • Industry Relevance: Contribution to biochar field advancement.
  • Technical Quality: Accuracy of content and proper methodology.

Student Poster Awards

Cash prizes ($100 Gift Card each) will be awarded to the winning student posters, judged against the criteria above.

Additional Considerations

  • Displayed materials should be self-explanatory, freeing you for discussion.
  • Use color to add emphasis and clarity.
  • Make illustrations simple and bold, with photos that show pertinent details clearly.

Important Notes


  • Session-specific details and poster board assignments will be provided in the conference program.
  • Plan to be present at your poster during designated viewing times, particularly during the primary poster event.
  • Prepare for questions about methodology, applications, and future research directions.
  • Network with fellow attendees to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.
